Stress is a nega1ve emo1onal experience accompanied by predictable biochemical, physiological, cogni1ve, and behavioral changes that are directed either toward altering the stressful event or accommoda1ng to its e ects. Six key moments in stress history: walter cannon: fight or ight behavior, hans selye: general adapta1on syndrome, holmes and rahe: stressful life events, lazarus: stress appraisals, blascovich: threat v. challenge, taylor et al: tend and befriend. Walter cannon: threat causes physiological changes, they help mobilize the body to ght or ee, helpful: allows your body to respond quickly, harmful: disrupts normal func1oning.
