Stereotypes beliefs that associate a whole group of people with certain traits. Prejudice negative feelings about others because of their connection to a social group. Discrimination negative behaviors directed against persons because of their membership in a particular group: news reporters, law enforcement, military (women weren"t represented in these areas years ago) Gender role stereotypes: set of shared cultural beliefs about males and females behavior, personality traits & other attributes. Research suggests that the stereotypes we have of women can be different depending on the group of women we are talking about. Where do these beliefs come from: historical perspective. Women stay home & take care of house, men go out & do work they moved in 2 different directions w/o a lot of overlap. Cult of true womanhood: psychological perspective: Something we all learn as children: categorization: natural and necessary process to organize and understand info.
