Spinal cord contains motor programs for the generation of coordinated movements and these programs are executed by commands from brain. Spinal control of movement: spinal cord command and control of coordinated muscle coordination, brain"s command and control of motor program in spinal cord. Smooth muscle lines digestive tract, innervated by ans // striated muscle cardiac muscle, skeletal muscle. Within each muscle are hundreds of muscle fibers (cells of skeletal muscle) which are innervated a single axon branch from cns. Skeletal muscle and lower motor neurons are not distributed evenly throughout body: spinal segments c3-t1 have swollen ventral horns represent large # of motor neurons for arms. Lower motor neurons distributed within the horn depending on function. Reciprocal inhibition: contraction of agonist muscles and relaxation of antagonistic muscles. Somatic muscle system | voluntary control and behavior. Skeletal muscles + somites + parts of nervous system that controls them.
