Utilitarianism - the actions that you do should be the ones that bring the most pleasure. The experience machine - hypothetical machine that will give you any experience that you may desire. Related to hedonism - the only intrinsic good in life is pleasure, only bad is pain. ^ how it feels, so the only intrinsic good and bads are how you feel. Things that matter other than experiences: actually doing things! Being a certain kind of person, living in actual contact with reality. Pleasures and pains are not the only thing. Premise : if hedonism is true -- pleasure and pains are the only thing with intrinsic value or disvalue in our lives. Perhaps what we desire is to live ourselves, in contact with reality. (and this, machines can not do for us. ) There are ways you can augment your experience of the world that falls in a gray area. (artificial limbs)
