Rural people of saudi arabia lose their tribal attachments when moving to a new city (that is more secular) it is disturbing and displacing. International immigrants a major recruiting grounds for islamists. Islamists have little faith in tradition, but due to certain factors such as alienation makes them go back to extreme tradition. Religions today are acquiring secular, non religious functions, particularly economic ones. Since the fall of socialism, there was increasing desire to expand church to care for social justice via redistributive policy. Islam had never advocated or performed as welfare state, though today many islamist parties have come to power on the grounds of promising social justice (ie hamas) In case of islam, sudden rise has to do with rise of wealth in certain islamic nations. Saudi arabia provided funds for many islamic organizations. Largest and most important branch of islam is wahhabism: puritan version of religion all major trends of islamism today come from wahhabism.
