Wahabism vs sunnism: mecca vs riyadh, uk role, 1914: ikhwan, 1916 treaty, 1919-1924 war. Radicalization occurs in all genders, socioeconomic classes, single vs married status, psychological conditions, etc does not explain why people turn to specific fundamentalist brand of islam. Does not require certain psychological/gender/etc conditions, though some are more conducive. Virus of puritanism emerged in saudi arabia in 1800s great ally of the us and in some cases the british core of islamist developments of 20th centuries goes back to saudi arabia. Wahhabism may not be the creed of all islamism movements but holds influence over others. Wahhabism has been so dominant it is backed by oil wealth to help develop other schools. Ottomanism (ie latin, hindu multicultural islam) ruled for 500 years. Ottoman emperor not just a follower of sharia, but also a legislator (not acceptable to puritanism)
