Compound eyes aren"t good at creating detailed images (unless they have a numerous amount) but they are good at detecting movement. These single units also produce a single signal that goes to the brain. They also only detect light that is coming straight at the single unit. Wings aren"t very well understood, but they are known to be evolved from protuberances of the thorax. Direct ight muscles that are attached to the wings. Indirect ight muscles can be attached to the roof and oor of the thorax or the back and front. The upward movement of the thorax moves the wings upward *** These quick contractions allow for very fast wing frequencies. In some insect groups the front pair of wings have become modi ed to function as a protective shield. These type of insects groups don"t y a lot.
