At the beginning of the movie the mujadeen attack with tanks. Sherina and a group of women try to stop koverchenko from killing sherina"s husband. Kovershenko kills sherina"s husband by running him over with the tank. Moustafa comes to taj to call upon his honor to avenge afghanistan . Moustafa wants to team up with taj to get revenge on the russians after the attack. Taj"s father, khan, and his brother were killed in the attack- taj becomes khan. Moustafa, taj, and the others go to the valley to try and attack the russians and their tank. Moustafa fails to shoot the soviet tank when they go to attack. One of taj"s men drank the poisoned water and dies. Koverchenko and the other men leave an explosive trap that blows up one of taj"s men. Nanawatai- to give sanctuary to those who ask. (to provide refuge or asylum (food, water, protection) to someone.
