Places are areas with social and cultural significance. Spaces are areas that exist without specific social and cultural significance. Murals enhance places & beautify blight; intersection of greenmount & 28th street (cid:498)creating space that has cultural meaning(cid:499) Proxemics: the study of the way people situate themselves in relation to others. Example: social spacing in a cafeteria, computer lab, or elevator. Spatial geography: the study of the way people organize facilities on the landscape. Example: distance between houses in a town or distance between shopping malls for best profit and efficient use and access. Ex- baltimore- founded in 1729, the inner harbor is the beginning and center of the city, the streets run north and south with avenues off of them. Roadways and logos have always linked our spaces together. Personal facilities of the home bounded by walls. The house in the town bounded by fences. The town in the state/province with invisible boundaries.
