To go a step further we could say that what we understand as race is one manifestation of the genetic variability of the human species. One manifestation of the genetic variability of the human species . Variability within a population gives that population the where with all to survive specific changes such that a new generation can survive to reproduce. Among us humans, a variety of skin colors have developed in accord with their settlements across the world. Tropics = darkened skin served as a protection against the uv light. Northern europeans = light skin, adaptation to the temperate environment. Eurasian continent = in between yellow, bearing straits. We could create racial categories on an alternative basis. Could have chosen blood type to distinguish between race. Human gene pool exists and varies in different ways. And this would have been more discrete because skin color is so imprecise.
