The electromagnetic spectrum- the entire radiation spectrum, including non-visible waves. Frequencies range from 10^2 hz to 10^hz. Wavelengths range from 10^6m to 10^-16 m. Memorize the order of the electromagnetic spectrum!!!!! The particles in a solid or liquid are constantly vibrating, whereas the molecules in a gas are constantly flying around at different speeds. Only at a temperature of absolute zero (test question) would all motion cease to exist no material substance can ever be cooled down to absolute zero. Motions of atoms and molecules will never cease completely. Heat- total kinetic energy of all of the atoms. Fahrenheit scale; freezing 32 degrees boiling 212. Celsius (or centigrade) scale: freezing 0 boiling 100. Kelvin (or absolute scale): 0 k = absolute zero. 273. 15 k = freezing point of water (just offsets the centigrade system by 273. 15 degrees. 373. 15 k = boiling point of water (100 degrees c) Heat is always transferred form hot objects to cooler ones.
