One of the ways that the world is intelligible ( makes sense ) is precisely that it is beautiful. Contingency behind the world is a will a capacity to appreciate and choose what is good. Contingency simply the opposite of necessity that which is not necessary but is possible. Science does not tell us how the world must be, but how it in fact is. We could say that a way of being exists if there is something that exists in that way.
