Long-term outcome for people with somatic symptom disorders. Brief episodes of dissociation, such as depersonalization, are common and normal. Forgetting highly personal information, typically after some traumatic event. Disruption of identity characterized by two or more distinct personality states. Recurrent gaps in the recall of everyday events that are inconsistent with ordinary forgetting. The personalities are not aware of each other. Some personalities are aware of the other ones but some are not aware. Are aware of each other and often communicate with each other. Persistent experiences of detachment from one"s body as if in a dream state. Maintain a sense of reality but feel as if they are detached from reality.
