Document Summary

A predator is a species that dependent on another for food. Predatory species that hunts its prey, kills it immediately, and then eats it. They don"t immediately kill their prey but instead consume parts of still living prey organisms (host species). Attach themselves or invade the host body. Consume blood, partly digested food, or even tissue directly from their host. While parasites, may increase a host"s vulnerability to death, they aren"t typically the direct cause. Predatory herbivores: when the whole plant is consumed. Parasitic herbivores: consume parts of the plants, grazers: plant parasites of grass, browsers: plant parasites of woody plants. Don"t have any negative impact on their prey organism. Klamath weed and chrysolina beetle: the beetle was introduced into the infested weed area, unless the beetle finds another host species, they probably won"t last once the weed species is gone. Predators lower the number of competitors on the field.
