Physical activities that r planned, repetitive & intended to improve physical fitness. Examples: going for run, taking a yoga class. Increasing levels of physical inactivity are seen worldwide. Barriers to movement: technology tv, computer, phones, school limited movement, safety, busy schedule. Stroke, colon & breast cancer & depression. Given what we know about the health benefits of physical activity, it should be mandatory to get a doctor"s permission not to exercise. To reduce risk of chronic disease 30 minutes of moderate exercise (5 days a week or 150 total minutes) To maintain body weight and prevent weight gain - 60 minutes daily. To sustain weight loss 60-90 minutes daily. Chemical energy used by cells for muscle contractions. Only small amount is stored in resting cells (2-5 seconds)
