PSY 336 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Emotional Dysregulation, Sensation Seeking, Protective Factor
Document Summary
An individual"s general style of behavior / across contexts. Conceptually it is similar to personality but from infancy & may be a precursor to personality. Both a risk & protective factor (i. e. probabilistic) Stable (i. e. across time & context) but can change. Influential for later behavior / (behavior / across time) Unaffected by other developmental factors (e. g. temperament & attachment section of text) Poor measure = invent a new one phenomenon. Many constructs assumed to fit under larger umbrella constructs. Slow to warm up level, etc irritability, etc. Behavior oral dysregulation: inhibition (-), impulsivity, sensation seeking, approach, withdrawal (-), activity. Emotional dysregulation: fear, anger, positive & negative emotionality, intensity & sensitivity, mood, Cognitive dysregulation: attention (-), effortful control (-), intellect (-), distractibility, etc. Behavior oral regulation (regardless of definition / construct) Potential for early identification of at risk children. Better understanding of exceptions & individual differences in outcomes.
