Document Summary

Intuition suggests it may have to do with: Knowing when you"re wrong, knowing about knowing (cf. metacognition) Intelligence: ability to learn from experience, solve problems, & use our knowledge to adapt to new situations. Often interchanged with score on an iq test. Intelligence tests were developed for the practical function of selecting students for admission / placement in schools. Originally not based on any theory of intelligence. Measure a person"s cognitive level relative to others in a population. Binet & simon devised a test to measure intellectual development in children. Believed that a true measure of intelligence is an individual"s performance on complex tasks of memory, judgment, & comprehension. Devised mental age concept : ma = avg age at which children achieve an actual score. To allow for comparison of test scores among persons, terman devised the concept of intelligence quotient (iq): Immigrants from europe were deemed mental defectives bc they had poor test scores.
