What: highest honor for an engineer to be inducted. Problems: people worried about climates, weather, global warming. Temperature of inside of ice caps is very closely related to the co 2 concentration in the atmosphere. Paris accords - no nuclear weapons (south america, africa, antarctica, australia, parts of asia) Human displacement due to natural and non natural disasters. Ex: earthquakes, wildfires, political unrest, slavery, refugees. Vision: continuation of life on the planet, making world more sustainable, safe, healthy, joyful. This reflects the goals of grand challenges for engineering. ***grand challenge scholars will go to gc conference summer 2019. Clark scholars program is participating in grand challenge scholars program. Almost all info is on slides/lecture video. Mostly talked about what the grand challenge scholars do, what the grand challenges are, how we can aim to fix them. Final paper at end will let you focus on one or more challenge area.
