Socialization: lifelong process by which people learn the culture of their society. Nurture vs nature debate: genetic inheritance/ biological predispositions vs culture/social/ interaction/experiences. Genie- girl who was found at 13 that was in the same room her whole life. At 12 years old he was too far removed to learn to communicate to fellow humans. The idea that we can never escape culture, the repercussions are isolation, limit us from maximizing our potential as human beings. Behaviorism: psychological that has emphasis on rewards and punishments on human behavior. Social learning: we are going to conform our behavior to outside expectations. We are learning how to act based on others. Maximized utility- once you desire something, you do something to gain that coke, you will get to the point where you are satisfied. The way we gain meaning using language and symbols. Cooley: looking glass self- it"s what i think you think i am.
