KINS 2223 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Presbyopia, Bifocals, Blood Sugar
Document Summary
Major initiation: the hands are req for mvmt, child cannot explore the environment with hands. Fundamental locomotor skills are the building blocks of more. Walking, running, jumping, hopping, galloping, sliding (chasse), skipping, leaping. Characterized by a progressive alternation of leading legs and continuous contact w/ the support surface (called upright locomotion) Gait cycle or walking cycles; distance covered by 2 heel strikes of the same foot. 3 phases of gait cycle: swing phase. Begins when foot of one leg leaves support surface. Ends when foot touches surface: support phase. Time when balance is maintained on one foot. Ex: right foot in swing phase while left foot is in support phase: double support phase. When both feet are in contact with ground does not exist in running. Independent walking req: sufficient leg strength to support body, equilibrium, initial walking patterns on floor. 2 types of balance: static (stationary, dynamic (moving)
