PSY 101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Developmental Psychology, Pacifier, Fetus
Document Summary
Areas of development: study how people grow, mature, and change in physical, cognitive, and social ways, we develop in three major ways. Physical our bodies change as we get older; how our bodies change over time has a profound role on psychological experience over time. Social as we get older, our ways of interacting with others change; when young, kids interact through parallel play (not really interacting while playing). Major issues in developmental psychology: stability v. change. Those who argue stability say that our personality forms in early life and that our personality traits remain throughout life (we are born with these traits) Those who argue change say that our personality changes as we age: continuity v. stages. Those who argue continuity say that development is continuous and gradual process. Those who argue stages say that development is found in stages; much more drastic changes where many conceptions are challenged and replaced: nature v. nurture.
