There are many differences and similarities between a physician assistant and a physician. Starting off with similarities, everyone is required to take the core sciences because they are the backbone principles that you will need to take the mcat and apply for school. Both career paths are rigorous and do require extra schooling. Generally, pa"s and physicians are taking care of patients and both can write prescriptions, perform surgery, complete exams of patients, make diagnoses and create treatment plans for their patients within their scope of practice. Both careers can choose to work in different specialties ranging anywhere from cardiology to surgery. Most importantly both careers are rewarding because it allows you to make a positive impact on the lives of other people. To be a physician the training path is much more time consuming and expensive than to become a physician assistant.
