Document Summary

Both career paths are similar yet different in their scope of practice. Occupational therapy focuses on the activities of everyday life, everything people do to occupy themselves, including looking after themselves, enjoying life, contributing to the social and economic fabric of their communities. Occupational therapists use occupations and other interventions as therapeutic tools to help people of all ages gain or regain their abilities to participate in necessary or chosen occupations. For example, a child s occupation would be playing so they would help children develop physically, cognitively, socially, and emotionally; they explore and master their environment they learn and develop a sense of self as separate from others. Physical therapists are health care professionals who diagnose and treat individuals of all ages with medical problems or other health related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives.
