Multiple pathways of interaction complicate the reconstruction of past climate, and future predictions: proxies gives the response on the system, not the cause of why the system had that response. Fast response times are due to daily cycles and seasons. Take response times into account because change from a force is not instantaneous. Can understand and reconstruct forcing by understanding response time. Residence time of a reservoir and steady state.
