Child development studies the way people grow & change from conception through emerging adulthood. Culture - the total pattern of a group"s customs, beliefs, art, & technology, transmitted through language. Various definitions but each connotes a set of social stimuli that have existence prior to us; it contains customs, values, beliefs, behavior, shared knowledge, etc. , that have a certain degree of intergenerational continuity (gardiner & kosmitzki, 1997) It is not equivalent to nation or ethnic group . Culture is non - instinctive: we are not genetically programmed to learn a particular one. Culture is cumulative: the new culture skills & knowledge are added onto what was learned in previous generations. Human culture econmpasses ideas, behaviors, & artifacts that can be transmitted between individuals & can change over time. Humans" evolutionary beginning shares ancestry with chimpanzees & gorillas. *** first 3 are biological, & last 2 are cultural. Males brains are bigger than female brains.
