ANTHRO 128B Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Blood Rule, Genetic Genealogy, White Nationalism
Document Summary
Week 6, thursday - good notes, edit if have time listened lecture recording up to 12:11. Last week we said: sex chromosomes (x and y) and the way it is associated with gender identity, femininity, masculinity, social understanding that gets imposed on themselves. By how closely related, you can take two people. And you can look at mtdna and you can trace back how many generations it was until you find their common ancestor: y-chromosome dna, passed virtually unchanged from fathers to sons, mostly passed from father to sons. You can go back so many generations and find the same y chromo. If there are 2 men with similar y chromo, you would know they are in the same lineage. And so the companies fight saying they have better databases because not all data bases are the same: it just has to match a few points. There are particular set points that are looked at.
