● Hormones and reproduction
○ LHRH (GnRH)
○ LH
○ FSH
● Hypothalamus releases LHRH
○ Pituitary releases LH and FSH
○ Heads to testes and ovaries
■ Testosterone and Estrogen+Progesteron
● Males, Hypothalamus to Pituitary LHRH
○ LH release to cells that increase Testosterone
○ FSH causes production of sperm
● When there’s enough testosterone, it feeds back to pituitary to stop releasing LH
○ Stop releasing testosterone
● Women, Hypothalamus to Pituitary LHRH
○ LH causes production of estrogen
○ Progesterone keeps a baby
● Competition causes stress
○ Stops erection
○ Stops blood flow
○ Stops hormones
■ LH = less testosterone
■ LH = less estrogen
● Among hyenas, females are sexually dominant
○ More muscular
○ More aggressive
○ More of a male sex hormone
● Hyenas are pseudohermaphrodites
○ Looks like hyenas possess machinery of both sexes
