Qualitative identities are those that share a lot of their qualities similar but share a lot of properties. Cloning an organ that share a lot of properties. For two things to be numerically identical, they have to be one in the same. Each and every property have to be identical. Morning star/evening star refer to the same planet (venus) so they are terms that are one in the same. Obama in 1995 and obama in 2013 identical over time so they are numerically the same person over time. Principle of the indiscernability of identical: if two things are numerically identical, they have to have all the same properties. Descartes argues that mind has properties that body doesn"t have. No one remains qualitatively the same person over time. The molecules of our body completely replaced every 7 years and our mind constantly undergoes change. Some creatures change their physical structure: caterpillar becomes a butterfly.
