Approximately 9% of women and 10% of men reported some homosexual attractions or behaviors. Average age of sexual debut is 17. Men masturbate 2. 5x more often than women. Women less likely to describe hooking up as positive experience: 40% of women reported hooking up in the first year of college, sex within romantic relationship is still twice as common as hooking up. Sexual dysfunctions involve desire, arousal, and/or orgasm pain associated with sex can lead to additional dysfunction. Must now be present for 6+ months to make a diagnosis. Must lead to impairment or distress to be called a disorder. Stages: desire, arousal, plateau, orgasm, resolution. Prevalence: sexual difficulties are very common and not always distressing, one study: 40% of men had difficulty with erection/ejaculation, 60% of women had problems with arousal/orgasm. Men and women experience parallel versions of most dysfunctions. Little or no interest in any type of sexual activity. Accounts for half of complaints in sexuality clinics.
