SOC SCI H1E Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: Neuroanatomy, Eudaimonia, Neuroscience
Document Summary
In the background has been connection between psychological states & brain states. Will begin looking more closely at neuroscience of happiness. Brains came" from brains of mammalian ancestors. Brains shaped by special evolutionary scenarios our hominid ancestors face. There are always homologies -> similar structures & shared functions across related organisms. *deep instinctive reaction to certain kinds of feelings of pleasure & discomfort. If can identify brain structures involved with behaviors then can weakly draw inferences about how similar reactions are connected to analogous human reactions. Perhaps certain behaviors & psychological states are connected with neuroanatomy & neurological structures that have long evolutionary history. Thinking about what liking" or pleasure" does for rodents can help us ground what it does for us. Will focus on this point in this class. Humans, like apes, are highly social, & depend on other humans to live. Culture allows for technological achievements which shape genetics.
