Core claim: countries can cooperate and care about more than just national security and military might. International interdependence, organization, norms can solve problem of anarchy. The word liberalism unfortunately means many things . Here, has very specific meaning: a theory from international relations. Like realism, sees the world as an inter-state system. State here = country, i. e. nation-state (e. g. State here = country, i. e. nation-state (e. g. germany) Focus is on relationships between countries and how these relationships shape the global system. But, liberalism rejects the realist idea that the natural condition of the world is war and anarchy. Problems don"t need to be settled through war. Why cooperation = possible (in liberal theory) Nation-states are interconnected in many ways for example through trade. As a result, their behaviors are interdependent, meaning they affect each other.
