Document Summary

Property is determined by the atoms and molecules that make it up. Atoms are submicroscopic and the fundamental building blocks of all things. Molecules are two or more atoms together. Chemistry is understanding the behavior and why. Philosophers reason and think of ideal behaviors. Scientists use empirical knowledge through observation & experiments. A hypothesis is a tentative interpretation or explanation for an observation. A good hypothesis can be both tested and disproven. Experiments are a set of highly controlled procedures designed to test validity. Scienti c law = summarizes all past events and predicts all future ones. Possible explanation for repeatedly observed patterns in nature. Scienti c theory = a general explanation for why things are the way they are. Models, pinnacles of scienti c knowledge, validated or invalidated by experimentation. A law governs a single action, whereas a theory explains an entire group of related phenomena.
