Document Summary

Psychodynamic : iceberg model of the mind ( sigmund freud ) Freud assumes we have a subconscious mind. Despite the fact that we are unaware of what of happening in our subconscious mind, it is still the biggest influence on all of our behaviors. We cannot speak about the human experience without discussing our unconscious mind. Everyone has messed up stuff going on in their head, we just choose to hide it or ignore it. For example: many people bite their nails. Note that when this was written, standards of manners were very high--men were gentlemen, and women were ladies. Dreams are a window into our subconscious. Because it"s a part of our subconscious. If something is so traumatic you can"t bare to think about it, you repress it so you forget, and don"t have to think about it. We all have instincts we are born with. Thanatos is our aggression, and violent behaviors.
