Document Summary

We need to dream, and have rem sleep, or else we will have a psychotic break. Lucid dreaming is being conscious of the dream, and being aware that you are dreaming. The symbols and parts of the dream we remember. The deeply repressed stuff we don"t remember. Dreams are our way of releasing deep emotions or impulses. Nothing to do with the consciousness, it has everything to do with information processing. Our dreams is the way we process the information we received that day. When you sleep, there"s less input into your brain, and you"re lying down. Your brain knows you"re not sitting down or standing, but it doesn"t have any more information because you"re asleep. Your brain makes up an explanation for what"s happening, since there isn"t enough input. Increases: reaction time (rt), dizziness, disinhibition, aggression. Are used to reduce anxiety or stress in patients. Mimic endorphins in the body, and relieves pain.
