This commercial is meant to advertise guinness beer and it uses wheelchair basketball. Why does it make you feel this way? players to promote the beer. The commerical"s intent is to provoke inspiration in the viewer because a disabled person in a wheelchair is doing something he shouldn"t be able to do, which is play basketball. The commercial is defining friendship as able bodied individuals disabling their bodies to include their friend who has a wheelchair when they play basketball. They are portrayed as supercrips who are overcoming their disability and their disabled body. Writing exercise 2: how does the bell curve organize bodies to create notions of normalcy and abnormality. The bell curve is a way of organizing information and it breaks up bodies into the subnormal, average, and ideal. Those that are in the negative outlier have qualities that are considered detrimental to the population, which the nation seeks to eliminate.
