Slums are the sites of harsh poverty and dangerous conditions. Discourse surrounding on this and not the people and what they are doing. Want to change the way that slums look e. g. art projects. Activism has tried to combat eviction and fight for slum improvement fight slums, not slum dwellers. Protests against the privatization of services in particular water: water makes water more expensive to people in slums compared to middle class people. Trying to formalize relationship between slums dwellers and land trying to make something legal for these people to live in. Collective property rights urban citizenship, social services property rights give them a better legal position to negotiate from. Property rights for the group as a whole for the land they live on. : mumbai people do not have access to public or private toilets they do not have access to dignity, they are often labelled as lazy and criminal.
