Contrast x-rays: inject something that absorbs x-rays differentially from tissue around it. Measure waves that hydrogen atoms emit when activated within a magnetic field. Measures radioactive-labelled glucose in parts of one horizontal level of brain. Considered invasive even though the radiolabeled substance is generally harmless. Signal created from interaction between oxygen and iron in blood. Measures oxygen compensatory response a bit behind (only measurers compensation of oxygen after it has been used up) Good spatial resolution, slow temporal (real-time) resolution. Measurers change in magnetic field (very small can only be measured at scalp) Way of activating brain structure--not a measure of neural activity. Coil applies magnetic field that stimulates brain (alters neural activity) Measures gross electrical activity of brain (brain waves) Event-related potentials (erp)--see what changes when doing a task. Can measure many areas of brain at once.
