Issues in aging: dementia, disorientation, loss of memory for time, place, routine/structure keeps cognitive status healthy. Independence: especially in older old, loss of independence: health and vigor, occupation and job, loss of structure, how to cope with loss, provide support, maintain social connections, communicate well, patience, empathy. Incidence: over 65, half of hospital costs: chronic problems: htn, osteoarthritis, diabetes, congestive heart failure, medication regime is highly complex, disability and the stigma of aging, disabilities compound.
