Hearth of an ancient civilization in south asia: indus river. 2 major river systems: indus (west) & ganges/brahmaputra (east) 3 billion depend on their fresh water (nearly the world"s population) Rivers from the circum-himalayan region supply water to the indus, ganges- Brahmaputra (3), irrawady (22), aslween, mekong (18), yangtze (6), and huang. He (yellow) rivers that have fed some of the most ancient civilizations on earth. Pakistan: controls water of much of indus & western tributaries. India: right to divert water from 3 eastern tributaries. 2 rivers form world"s largest delta; dominates landscape of bangladesh. Ganges: flows through nepal, n. india, & then to bangladesh. Brahmaputra: flows through tibetan plateau, e. india & into bangladesh.
