The behaviors that are associated with a particular identity. Parents need to figure out how they are going to act and perform. How responsive they are to the child. Behavior used to reduce anxiety of child. Ex. afraid of lightning you comfort the child. At the other end of the spectrum is indifference or rejecting the child perpetuates or creates more anxiety. How demanding parents are of the child. Discipling, expectations, regulation pertaining to the child. Socializing them on how to act appropriately in certain situations. At the other end of the spectrum is no care/ indifference not supervised or regulated, so they are often at risk. Parenting styles: indulgent, authoritative, authoritarian, and uninvolved. All parenting is a commitment to nurturance and control. This becomes the environment that will affect developmental trajectory. Ex. commitment to constant stimulation but discouraging sleeping with child. Always different advice in each cohort as knowledge evolves.
