Age is a poor guide for understanding the unique developmental issues of people as they get older. The differences in the two stages: health and psychological outlook more important. Ageism in america: stereotypical and prejudicial outlook of elderly; discriminate, group profiling; why the elderly age segregate themselves; both the aging and younger people lose out from the loss of contact. Exists because of lack of meaningful contacts of people within this group. Eldery people in most cultures are respected not necessarily true in us looked at as burden or inconvience the norm is to go move and live with other old people, don"t stay in community. Youth orietetaed culture we encourage eldery to segregate themselves. *ism= based on a foundation of prejudice, pre-judgmental view of the whole group, group profiling. Ex: grocery store, get annoyed with old people why don"t they go elsewhere, instead of saying go in front of me.
