First generation in us to have worse economic prospects than parents generation. Pressures in adolescence revolve around identity development. 3 different equal issues that need to be resolved. How do you want to live life. Always been pressured by others, now to become adult you need to make your own decisions. 13-21 career choices are not solid, change with experiences, knowledge. Push you to examine beliefs, values, lifestyle choices. In early adolescence the tensions revolve more around lifestyle and ideology than around occupation. However, at all stages there is a tension among the three prongs of the triangle! Early adolescence as kids become less egocentric they become more aware of the norms for conformity and the value of fitting it.
