Rituals, language, symbols (e. g skull and crossbones) Though death and dying are universal experiences, perceptions, beliefs, values, and behaviors relating to death are ever-evolving. Culture"s prevailing philosophy of death can be inferred from: Ancient rituals preserved the body for the afterlife. Western attitudes from middle ages through 20 th century led to invisible death. Rise of death with dignity" movement in 20 th century. Tamed death = death was viewed as familiar and simple, a transition to eternal life. Shown within the middle ages (like in games of thrones) Invisible death = the preference that the dying retreat from the family and spend their final days confined in a hospital setting.
