2016 cancer stats: estimates 1. 7 million new cases. Most common is prostate cancer at 21% 1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. Seen in men > 65 years old, seen earlier is rare. 1 in 39 men will die from prostate ca. 1 in 36 women will die from breast cancer. Stable rates of incidence in caucasian women, increased in aa women. 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. Acute getting through the diagnosis and treatment. Extended waiting for results, reoccurrence, dealing with longterm effects of both having cancer and treatment. Physical: less strength, sleep disturbance, fatigue, nausea, low appetite, constipation, neuropathy, scars, chemobrain . Emotional: loss of control, anxiety, fear, depression, disturbed self esteem/body image, Social: disrupted family/roles, work & finances, reproductive abilities. Spiritual: meaning of disease, life, punishment?, uncertainty, hope. Sometimes patients don"t look at the whole picture. Or understand the symptom is connected to their cancer treatment.
