Document Summary

Digestive starts in the mouth with the secretion of saliva. Food then moves through the esophagus into the stomach and then the small intestine. The final step of digestive occurs in the large intestine and the waste is excreted through the anus. Accessory organs to the digestion system include salivary glands, liver, pancreas, gallbladder. Ex: liver makes bile which aids in digestion and absorption of fat. The cephalic phase of digestive includes the head. Sends signals to g. i. tract to prepare enzymes for digestive by letting it know what kind of food is coming down. Liver is very close to pancreas and small intestine. They are constantly communicating with each other to secrete digestive enzymes. It aids in starch digestive, taste, lubrication and swallowing. Saliva is a digestion secretion of the mouth. Mucus is secreted in the mouth, stomach and small intestine. It is a viscous material that lines mucosa. Also moistens, lubricates and protects the gi tract.
