Psychology is the scientific investigation of mental processes and behaviors. Psychology is different than other biological behavioral science. Ideas being studied by psychologists directly relates to technological development, public policy, and personal choice. Most psych faculty have active research programs and many have externally (government funded) research grants (nih, nsf, autism foundation, etc) Clinical psychology (nature and treatment of psychological disorders, focus on mental health disorder that may benefit from behavioral/clinical therapy) Applied: work in government/business settings and extends psychological principles to education and industry and/or design new products and systems. Research psychologist: work at universities, government, or industry settings. Do experiments collecting data in both basic and applied research (most/all of uconn psych faculty fall into this category) Clinical psychology = focusing on cause and treatment of mental health disorders.
