Hyoid bone: horseshoe-shaped bone ( floating bone ) that is point of attachment for lingual muscles (above) and laryngeal muscles (below) Thyroid cartilage: largest cartilage of the larynx formed by 2 halves that meet to form the thyroid prominence (adam"s apple) Cricoid cartilage: ring-shaped cartilage that rests on top of the trachea. Voicing (phonation): adducting (closing) the vocal folds together so that they vibrate during the production of vowels and voiced consonants. Voiceless: abducting (opening) the vocal folds during the production of voiceless consonants.
