Baldwin engaged with the structural impediments in the nature of afam life. The blues is the central theme and metaphor of the story. Duality: jazz blues and also the sad boi. Sonny(cid:394)s misfortune and sadness, feelings of being lost. Music gives sonny a release, his (cid:396)own(cid:397) identity in it. (cid:396)create his own kingdom(cid:397) (cid:396)royal blood(cid:397) of sonny from his own chosen life. A (cid:396)scream(cid:397) that is pushed through the music. Common and collective sadness/emotions in the band together.
