Digital communication: electronic media used to send digitally coded signals. Words, symbols, verbals, non-verbals same as normal communication, but it"s digitally coded. Text messages are coded by your smartphone so that it can send. Ex: texts, anything on the internet, tv signals through satellites, Almost all americans now use internet ( have broadband) About have smartphones; in developing countries they often go straight to smartphones. Could have greater access to technology, but is a large percentage of the population still. But things go in and out of popularity: apps, social media, etc. Facebook, instagram: been around for a long time, but they are also changing all the time. Digital channels are important choices we make bc they offer varying degrees of: Synchronicity: ability to coordinate rapid exchanges in real time. Highly synchronous: exchanges are rapid, at the same time. Highly synchronous; verbal delays are present, but nonverbal delays are continuous and consistent. Asynchronous; long response time and not very efficient.
