Legal immigrants: foreign-born persons admitted to the us as lawful permanent residents (lprs) who may or may not have become naturalized citizens. Legal migrants/nonimmigrants: foreign-born persons admitted to the us on a temporary basis so as to visit, study, work, do business, or avoid persecution. Legal resident aliens: foreign-born persons admitted to the us legally on a temporary or permanent basis. Were legally admitted to the us on a temporary basis but overstayed their visa permissions (visa abusers or overstayers) Were legally admitted to the ua on either a temporary or permanent basis but committed a deportable offense (criminal aliens) Asylee (asylum seeker): a foreign-born person who is seeking protection from persecution from inside the us or at the border. Dreamer: young undocumented immigrant who came to the us as a child, often with family, and stayed to attend public schools. Unaccompanied minor: a foreign-born child who crosses the border alone or without their parents.
